A working catalog of secondary data sources.
Before you use these listings
This is an educational reference compiled by hand. It is not legal advice, and it is not a substitute for the terms each data provider publishes. Access requirements, licenses, and availability change without notice, so verify current terms with the source before you download, analyze, or publish anything.

- Accuracy and currency. Entries were verified by hand when they were written and are provided as is, without warranty of any kind. Links break, agreements are revised, versions are superseded, and data sets are withdrawn. Confirm the current version and terms directly with the provider before you rely on anything here.
- Not legal, medical, regulatory, or professional advice. Nothing on this page creates an attorney-client relationship or any professional advisory relationship. Consult your own counsel, your institutional review board, and your privacy office before relying on any description of a license, an access requirement, or a permitted use.
- Your obligations. You are responsible for complying with each provider's data use agreement, license, and human subjects requirements. Several sources listed here require credentialing, an institutional signature, ethics review, or a fee. De-identified data still carry legal and ethical obligations, including prohibitions on attempting to re-identify anyone.
- No affiliation or endorsement. Organizations, programs, and products are named for reference only. Listing does not imply their endorsement, sponsorship, or review of this resource, and this resource is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any of them. All trademarks belong to their respective owners.
- Third-party links. Outbound links point to independently operated sites. Their content, security, availability, and terms are outside the control of this resource.
- Personal project. This is a personal educational project. It does not represent the position, endorsement, or official view of any employer, client, university, funder, or organization with which the author is affiliated.

Broad, general-purpose front doors. Where the source catalog goes deep on a specific data set, these are the places to look when you do not yet know what exists. Each note is about how to use the site well, not a description of its home page.
Cite the version you used. Data sets are revised, reissued, and superseded, and documentation is updated in place. Whatever you download, keep your own copy, note the release or vintage and the date you retrieved it, and cite that in your methods. It takes a moment at the time and saves reconstructing your steps later.
