GitHub, one step at a time

From creating an account to publishing a documentation site and automating the build. Answer a few questions, get an ordered plan, then work through the short lessons and check them off as you go.

Your plan

Pick what you want to end up with and where you are today. The plan lists only the lessons you need, in the order you should do them.

What do you want to have when you finish? Pick all that apply.

Your plan and your check marks are saved in this browser only. Download the checklist if you want a copy you can keep or print.

Choose your options and select Build my plan. Your next step will show here, followed by the full ordered list.

Starter files

Tell the generator what your project contains and it writes the files you would otherwise copy from somewhere else: a .gitignore, a README skeleton, an MkDocs configuration, a deploy workflow, and the first commands to run.
